Pieter Schalk van Staden, B Tech Fine and Applied Arts (cum laude). In 2005 artworks were exhibited and housed in the Student Art Gallery, Hatfield, Pretoria. He was selected as one in the top 100 of the 2007 Ekurhuleni National Fine Arts Awards.Obtained four distinctions in 2007 National Diploma: Fine and Applied Arts). Appointed currently as a contract lecturer at Tshwane Univerisity of Technology: Arts Department (Fine Arts; Graphic Design and Jewellery Design In (2008) he was selected as one in the top 95 of the (2008) Ekurhuleni National Fine Arts Awards and took part in Art Alive in the same year and was a finalist in the (2008) Absa L'Atelier Arts competition. Schalk also exhibited artworks in a group exhibition at Magpie Gallery in (2008). In 2009 he is the recipient of the Thea van Schalkwyk Art Award where the criteria was: mastership, command of media, presentation, relevance, application, development scope, competitiveness, sophistication and giving media and expression a renewed edge.
Schalk has given a traditional medium - oil painting - a revived edge and by doing so re-confirmed the medium as art making direction.
